A Bunch of Retards

For some time now I have touched on the fact that our players seem to demonstrate little intelligence in their conduct and play. The intelligence that inclines you to take those little singles, bowl a particular ball, or play a particular shot, how to stand, run or dive in a particular way on the cricket field. The intelligence that tells you when boundaries are needed or when singles are needed, and the intelligence that tells you not to try and bite a hard leather ball with dozens of cameras on you.

The Dawn newspaper has recently published comments by former coach Intikhab Alam in which he says that many of the Pakistan players are ‘mentally retarded’. His exact words were “…they are mentally retarded people. They do not know that they are representing the country”. I would have to say that this seems to fit in very well with some of the things we see from the Pakistani players on and off the cricket field.

The issue is how you address such a situation and this leads to the same place as every question in regards to problems with Pakistan cricket leads to. Without a stronger government that works for its people, the society in Pakistan, where our cricketers come from, will not develop as quickly as it should. While the puppet is in place to fight somebody else’s ‘war on terror’, the Pakistan people will continue getting a raw deal.

In the interim, the PCB should set-up some sort of schooling system for its players which all players must go through in order to make it into the national side. In it, they can be taught about etiquette, good social behaviour, how to talk in a civilised way and taught to develop their thought processes and be independent, instead of being plucked from the villages and hamlets and thrust onto the world stage. The government and the PCB cannot hold up their hands and say they have nothing to do with this problem. They have a responsibility to their people.

Combine an able mentality with the natural physical giftedness shown by our players, and Pakistan would be the number one force in World cricket. This I’m afraid will not happen for decades.

“A bunch of retards controlled by a bunch of crooks” that would have been a more apt title for your post.

First through selectorial blunders they ruined the team combination and the rest was taken care by our idiot captain he failed to play a proper combination until the last match, failed to use the bowlers in a proper order. The genius in him bowled Rahman and Aamer 3 overs each who were his most economical bowlers, we just lost by 1 run and people still think that Afridi did a great job as a leader.

It’s a waste of time to follow these clowns, Pakistan cricket has become a joke.

Yes, very true. It makes you wonder what they used the training camp and the warm-up games for when they’ve quite clearly gone into the tournament not knowing their best team. Outrageously unprofessional. Seems the coaches and selection committee are retarded too.

The problem we were also going to have with Afridi being captain is that it may affect his own game. Being one of our most influential players in t20, it was vital he took care of his own game too. So far, he has not performed well enough with bat and ball. I think if he starts performing himself, he’ll become more confident and his decision making may well be more instinctive and better as a captain.

As for Pakistan cricket as a whole, it is in such a mess that it’s difficult to believe anyone decent will want to go near it and sort it out. Where do you start?

I can fall back on supporting England :) but I’m not sure what you’ll do.

My golf season has started so I don’t care about cricket anymore, I will play and follow golf until Pakistan goes to England.

I still believe we could have done a lot better, a lot of things went wrong because of Afridi’s brainless decision making. Who would not bowl his ace bowlers their full quota. We lost the match against Kiwis by just 1 run and both Aamer and Rahman didn’t bowl their full quotas.

I think it will take time for him to learn but if his past behavior is of any indication I think his brain doesn’t have the learning faculty.

You guys better make sure that England wins today otherwise all the responsibility will be on you guys.

You were right about me not writing off the retards, Stani – at this rate, it looks like you and I will be arm wrestling yet again!

    Congrats Stani

We somehow were able to win the lottery. Afridi’s luck has taken us into next round. From here it’s just two matches.
Thank you England, you might end up regretting it but many thanks. English team played like true professionals even though they knew that the result of this game was of no consequence for them. Hats off for them once again.

Can’t believe that there were a few more teams which were even worse than us. Now feel a bit sorry for Afridi that he doesn’t have anymore reserves to replace Misbah, Latif and Hafeez nor he has anyother bowler who could match the performance of Aamer, he will have to rely on his spinners but the good thing is that now he knows which bowlers to trust and which batsman to trust.

Congratulations! Even though we have inept players, at least we have God on our side (so me and Maz cannot take any credit, even though Maz will try ;) )

I always believed if Afridi performed himself, we’d do better. With our stripped side, he is the fulcrum, a lot depends on him, captaincy aside.

I think England just wanted to avoid their brethren, the Australians.

Completely agree with your point in regards to Afridi’s options. I’m not sure why they altered the batting again for the South African game with Latif coming in. It didn’t pay off and we were lucky it didn’t cost us either. Not the time to be experimenting.

No arm wrestling, I have had enough of losing to you; does a man’s confidence no good…although I have raised issue with the World Arm Wrestling Federation about the legality of the size of your shoulders. See you in the semis big girl, and expect some revenge from the cornered retards….I mean tigers.

    Could this be another 1992 ? !

Forget that, how do you find enough time to spam people?!

There was something about ’92 that will never be repeated. It just seems that the modern tournaments fail to live up to the nostalgia in the future.
