If Younis Khan’t, then who can? Though it seems as though Younis will be persuaded to return, lets examine the possible candidates up for captaincy should Younis stick to his decision to resign. Here are the obvious four, each with their positives and negatives.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Shahid Afridi:
+ Attack minded
+ Brave
+ All rounder
- Thoughtless at times and in some critical situations
- Will he play Test matches?
- Alleged to be involved in Younis’ resignation
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Misbah Ul-Haq:
+ Intelligent
+ Good in the field
+ Calm persona
- Dip in form
- Uncertainty in regards to a place in the side
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Mohammad Yousuf:
+ High class batsmen
+ Senior figure
- Too laid back
- Not vocal on the pitch as it is (being a senior player)
- Will not play t20 games
- Can only contribute with bat
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Shoaib Malik:
+ Intelligent and thoughtful
+ Previous captaincy experience with a decent record
+ All rounder
- Young, not taken seriously by seniors
- Not vocal enough
- Slightly inconsistent
Looking at the above, I’m not certain there’s a straight forward replacement at all. If Younis is not persuaded to return by the PCB then I would be tempted to go with Afridi for the short form and bring back Malik for the Tests. It really is looking like Younis was captain because there simply was no other choice.

I would say Younis is Pakistan’s only choice right now. He needs to realize that and stop being such a big baby.

I wonder who in the team has everyone’s respect? I personally think all the guys in the current Pakistan side are extremely talented and each one has their own pros and cons. The main thing about captaincy when all other skills are almost the same – should be who will command respect from the players and who will the players follow without any issues.

I agree with Stani about choosing Afridi for ODI. But not too sure about the test candidate. Thats needs more talking and thinking.

ah well, when will we start producing quality leaders in cricket as well as every field of life. We got abundance of talent but no leadership quality and we are in a mess. Education and grass root system to be blamed or society or culture or whatever.
Afridi will be the 2nd best choice after Younis, but let Younis have a run. About tests I think we have to do a lot of things including captaincy. We are yet to win a single test match in almost two years now.

Yk has set forth his conditions as I suspected. He wants to remain the captain of the team until 2011 Wc
And wants to get rid of some people in the team management.
The guy has the audacity to black mail when his own place in the team is not justified Butt should kick is behind and should ask him to prove his form in domestic cricket if he even wants to play as a player in the team.

Purna
But will he realise? This is not the first time he has done it and though Osman Samiuddin says on cricinfo that saying Younis has done it before is a ‘lazy assumption’ to make, it is a fact, he keeps doing it.
Rayden
This is a good point. Come to think of it, they probably all have issues with someone in the team and vice versa. Maybe Misbah is the only one but is his form good enough for him to keep his place in the side?

If Afridi plays Tests then I have no qualms about him being captain in all forms. I must say that he has shown enthusiasm at being given the t20 role and it was also evident in the one ODI he captained against Windies even though he did make mistakes. His attacking, no fear style of captaincy is quite appealing.
Reverse
That is the problem – it’s not just our cricket but it is the same throughout all levels of society. Until our government is strong and just, our cricket will never follow for any length of time.
You are right about our Test game and it perplexes me more about how inconsiderate Younis was in resigning. There is a lot of work to do but he’d rather walk away for personal reasons.
Wasim
If the reports of his demands are correct, then it is absurd and should not be considered at all. He should be put in his place like England did with Pietersen. Younis arguing that he has won a World Cup and got to the semis of the Champions Trophy is not good enough. His personal performances must be considered or else we’re as good as saying it’s ok to play with 10 men.

The respect as a captain has to be earned Rayden. And it only comes when you prove yourself as a leader by performing. The problem here is that no recent Pakistani captain got a chance to earn that respect because they either don’t perform or they are removed too quickly. Younis at least got that opportunity.
As for his demands, he’s just trying to hold his own against that stupid board of his I guess. Match-fixing allegations are a pretty personal attack on someone’s integrity and character. Quite insulting.

I have introduced a new introduced a new structure and layout on Maza786 which includes a change of background, tweets updates, polls and videos. The green has been incorporated to represent my supporting country. I also have now got a maza786 webs site which is part of maza786 but has all my favourite videos and montage in high quality. It is available for anyone to look at if they want to re-live some magical moments of the game. The montage and collection is one that I recommend. I also hope it would be easier to post comments now on the main blogger site. If u have any more suggestions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact me via email.
Although the URL shall remain the same, my site name is boom boom cricket.
