By Tabrez Janjua for Stani Army in Pakistan Cricket
70 Views“…That doesn’t mean the tournament is perfect. The marketing is incorrectly playing on the name of the tournament. “Only Champions. Only the Best.”
Only Champions? That isn’t true. Runners-ups are playing too. Lots of them, some of them are good, others are Somerset.
Only the Best. But not the best? The best-performed country in World Twenty20 championships is Pakistan; they are the superheroes of Twenty20 cricket. Rajasthan Royals had two pretty important Pakistani members in the first IPL team. Even in Australia they used them domestically. And the last ICL was won by Pakistanis.
When it comes to the term champions in this format, they should probably be first in line. The team that we miss out on is the Silky Stallions (actually title Sialkot, but Silky is snappier) who have won four out of a possible five Twenty20 titles in Pakistan. I have no idea if they are good, but I have no idea if Otago are either, I assume Otago aren’t, but they get a chance to prove me wrong.
Pakistani cricketers have always been my favourite, and it seems wrong to not have them in a tournament like this. Especially when it isn’t their fault. So many idiots have conspired to ensure that there should be an asterisk in the title of this tournament…”
Couldn’t agree with him more. Until Pakistan players do participate, Stani Army will be a Champions League-free zone. Jarrod’s article can be found here. Visit his cricketing blog Cricket With Balls.

I couldn’t agree more with Jarrod and Stani.
Pakistan are the champions of T20 format. They were phenomenal during the ICL with the invincible Lahore Badshahs. They were finalists in 2007 of T20WC and obvious winners in 2009.
Unacceptable and frankly stupid to ignore the formidable achievements of Sialkot. And it couldn’t be stressed any further, its not even their fault. This tournament is incomplete without a Pakistani representative.
Therefore I agree 100% with Jarrod Kimber’s views ……

The Pakistan T2O CHAMPIONS STATUS IS SIMPLY EVIDENT. Furthermore, do you remember Faisalabad Wolves winning some international club T20 in September 2005 ? This further justifies the champions status.
T20 is also the ultimate future of the game !

Don’t the teams have to put their players up for auctions in order for the IPL franchises to actually buy them? And obviously the Lahore Badshahs weren’t included because it would have pissed the ICC off.

Maz,
Interesting article. So much for all the arguments about the Pakistan Gov/PCB not allowing our players to participate in the Champions League. Modi just didn’t want us there but if we continue to rule t20, the weasel will eventually have no choice.
Please have a look at that email I sent you Maz and try make those changes so I can comment. Thanks

Could I invite you for an online gaming session, and tell us how you feel about the game? It will take about 15 minutes.

Pakistan’s tour of Australia is forthcoming and I am concerned about the ongoing crisis of the opening slot. The wickets and conditions down under will be much challenging as opposed to the flat pancake turfs our openers get fed on in the domestic circuit. I feel we need to use Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed in test matches. The Qaida Azam trophy shall be influential in the selection committee’s planning but that simply as matter of fact doesn’t give an overview of one’s ability and how they would encounter the indifferent Australian conditions.
In regards to the flamboyance of Imran Nazir he should be kept in the reckoning for ODI’S and T20 format. It’s only a matter of time before he will be able to show us why he deserves a place in limited over cricket. His free scoring dominant style may pull of when we need it as he has continuously demonstrated in the domestic and T20 arena. Perhaps even only a T20 specialist but in that case he should be given the licence to counter attack which is what he does best.

Stani, I didn’t get your email ……..

Maz,
I agree about the opening slot. We have 3 Tests against New Zealand in November/December before we go to Australia. I think those should be used to try at least one opener.
I watched Nazir in the ICL and we would be silly to drop him. He is a potential match winner. Ok, he doesn’t always come off but with Afridi maturing then we can afford Nazir to play his natural game, one which he should not be stopped from playing.
I will send the mail again.

All of IPL and CL is nothing but those few isolated sperm from Lalit Modi which does not impregnate all human beings.
The rest do not matter.
