Pakistan v South Africa Summary
By Tabrez Janjua for Stani Army in Pakistan Cricket
33 ViewsWith Pakistan’s bowlers starting off poorly, it seemed like a big score was on the cards and South Africa obliged. Pakistan have a very good Twenty20 record but were well beaten today.
Few plus points were the bowling of Saeed Ajmal (2 for 24) and the promising little innings from Ahmed Shehzad (33 off 27).
Afridi (2 for 34) and Ajmal aside, the other bowlers need to step up and the batsmen really need to give more value to their wicket.
Typically awful in the field aside from a couple good run outs and were also typically generous with the extras. Lots to work on.

Q, I think it’s time for your boy Alam. I agree but has to be for Salman Butt.
Aamer for Rao I think as Tanvir can improve and has more variation than Rao

Doesnt looks like that training camp in the mountains, the RBS Cup et all did any good for them.
Shows how much we need Imran Nazir and maybe even Razzak.
Alam needs to be there in the middle order. Dont know wat he has to do to get into the team.
Tanvir has looked jaded for a long time. He’s going to be expensive I feel.

As in expensive if he continues to play.
And thanks for getting the email notifications on

No probs Q!
So you would have Iftikhar instead of Tanvir? I think if Tanvir can get his line sorted out he’ll be useful. His slower bowl is special.
We got India next right?

Tanvir has lost a lot of pace his bowling has been sorted out, he bowls consistently on the pads and get punished, he also gives away too many extras. I think he should be axed.
At least Malik gave chance to Fawad Alam whenever he could but it seems Younis Khan is hell bent on not giving him any chance.`
I don’t know if you guys noticed it or not all the batsmen were trying to play selfishly and wanted the batsman on the other end to take the risk.
The seniors have created this culture and now the youngsters like Ahmed Shahzad are also developing a thick skin and are playing selfishly.

I agree with Wasim on Tanvir.. he gets bullied on the field.. Rao might be a better bet… even yet maybe Arafat wud be a better bet – hes got experience on England conditions..

I agree about. Tanvir going too much on the pads Waz. Guess I just have his IPL performances in the back of my mind which is why I feel we should stick with him. May be he needs Warne?
Our batsmen have never played as a partnership or group for as longer as I can remember. Not aware of singles, don’t know how to find gaps…experts in bludgeoning the ball straight to the fielder.
Maybe it is time for Arafat then Q. I was worried about our bowling before the tournament and now our battings getting me worried too. He can chip in with both.
How do you guys think Younis has started his captaincy over all? I think too much favouritism off the pitch and too reactive, instead of proactive on it.

Better off with the loss now than in the tournament right? India suffered the same consequences.
The scary part is that Umar Gul for Pakistan and RP for India both got hammered, these two are supposed to be somewhat dependable for their respective teams!

U might be right Fark.. better off losing now.. atleast India still looked quite good.. Pakistanis looked jaded and uninterested.
Maybe Arafat time Stani.. lets wait for tomorrow and c how the management is thinking.
June 2nd, 2009 at 9:15 pm
I see what you’re saying Fark but if by losing now, we’re getting our losses out of the way then that’s great but our lot will lose now AND in the tournament! Plus, as Q alluded to, it was the manner of the loss. I’m not expecting anything this tournament. India will show more fight, they hate losing more so they will do well.
Q, management thinking? They do that? Hehehehehehe
June 2nd, 2009 at 9:17 pm
It is their thinking that is keeping Alam and Aamer out.. so they surely do it, only how is what we don’t understand…

Wouldn’t put too much stock into warm up results, especially for teams like Pakistan and India. I think it helps tanvir et al brush off some of the rust. The batting might be a problem though. They look a little short on ‘explode’ability. Is it even worth considering that afridi might provide that this time?
June 3rd, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Yes donthaveaclue, we have implode-ability. The difference between the Pakistan and Indian players is that the Pakistan ones don’t give a monkeys.
The Indians hate losing….almost to the point of killing someone when it happens. This makes them get it right asap. The Pakistan players lose and say, oh well, doesn’t matter.

I think we are wasting our time supporting this team they have other plans they are do not play for national pride they play for other reasons.
We have ruined our team because of jingoistic criticism, now we want all those players back in the team whom we criticized so much.
Can any body tell me What good Younis Khan has done to the team since he took over, and why Malik was removed from Captaincy.
The blue print to lose matches is the same. select a few non deserving junior players, and under performance by a few seniors.
